Welcome to Touching Tornadoes

Life doesn’t always go the way you expect. For years, I was on a path I thought would define me—creating podcasts, shows, and comedy with friends and family. We poured ourselves into these projects, working together to build something that was more than just a hobby. It felt like we were making something real, something that could grow into a part of who we were.

But then mania hit. It didn’t just shake things up—it destroyed everything we had worked so hard for. The shows ended. Friendships broke down. And one of the projects I’d built from the ground up—a podcast—was taken off track as I lost my sense of identity and direction.

The hardest part wasn’t just the failure—it was pushing people away in the process. The same people who had helped me build these projects were suddenly distant, and I found myself feeling more isolated than ever. The sense of loss was overwhelming. It wasn’t just about the things I had lost—it was about wondering who I even was anymore.

When I was at my lowest, I turned to podcasts and audiobooks about bipolar disorder. I listened to stories from others who had experienced similar things, hoping to understand myself better. What was this disorder? What had happened to me? And, most importantly—who was I now, in the aftermath of all the chaos?

Touching Tornadoes is how I’m trying to make sense of it all. It’s where I bring my love for storytelling, my desire to help others, and my experiences with bipolar disorder together. This space is about sharing the highs, the lows, and everything in between. It’s about being honest and vulnerable, but also using humor to get through the toughest times.

My Story

Hey, I’m Conrad. I’ve spent years in the world of podcasting and comedy, trying to make people laugh, tell stories, and connect with others. Back in the day, I was part of a team that built a podcast from the ground up—a project that we worked on with passion and heart. But when mania hit, it didn’t just derail the podcast—it broke apart everything I had built with my friends and family.

I pushed people away. I lost a lot—friendships, projects, and a sense of who I was. The food truck business we grew into a restaurant and the shows we made all fell apart in the wake of my manic episodes. It wasn’t just a loss of businesses or projects—it was a loss of identity, and the process of rebuilding felt impossible.

After my diagnosis, I turned to podcasts and audiobooks about bipolar disorder, hoping to understand what had happened to me, and to learn how I could move forward. I realized that while my journey through mania had broken many things, it had also opened up a new purpose for me: to use my experiences and my love for storytelling to help others.

It hasn’t been an easy journey, but here I am, sharing it with you. I’m not an expert, but I’m passionate about using what I’ve learned to help others who feel like they’ve lost their way.

My Mission

At Touching Tornadoes, my mission is simple: to build a community around shared stories, humor, and the lived experience of mental health struggles. This space is dedicated to connecting with others through personal experiences with bipolar disorder and using humor as a tool to navigate life’s toughest moments. I am not an expert, but I believe in the power of storytelling and community to help us understand ourselves and each other.

The podcast is just the start—my mission extends into public speaking, where I share my story with businesses, schools, churches, and other organizations. I use my experience as a certified peer specialist and advocate for mental health to offer a perspective rooted in lived experience, not just theory. I aim to bring hope, resilience, and understanding to the conversation around mental health and bipolar disorder.

My goal is to create a space where we can all share, laugh, and grow together. Whether you’re here for the podcast, the blog, or any of the other content, I hope you find something that resonates with you.

This is not a place for professional advice—just a place to be real. Through this platform, I hope to use my experiences with mania and mental health struggles to create a space for others to feel seen and heard. I’m not pretending to have all the answers, but I do believe in the power of stories, humor, and connection to help us through the toughest moments.
